Although you know and love Murray Fredericks as a commercial artist and photographer, we are always inspired by his experimental and hauntingly beautiful personal work, which is why we are proud to announce Murray’s latest exhibition WITNESS.
WITNESS will be exhibited in Sydney for the first time at ARC ONE Gallery from April 4 and showcase a series of abstract landscapes captured by Murray at Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre), South Australia.
Connecting two bodies of work, VANITY (2017) and ARRAY (2018), WITNESS sees the artist intersect the emptiness of space through the reflective quality of mirrors. Murray utilises the mirrors to reflect the immense environment around us, creating otherworldly images, not unlike portals or apertures.
VANITY and ARRAY are cycles of a larger SALT project, which currently comprises of images taken over 23 trips to Lake Eyre since 2003. The project has grown significantly since its inception as Murray is drawn back to the location year after year to explore the mesmerizing salt pan and capture its beauty.

Murray Fredericks is one of our most unique artists, whose particularly abstract personal work can be easily translated into his well-known commercial work. In 2018, the artist travelled across the country to find a suitable spot to shoot a desolate landscape, reminiscent of Colorbond Steel’s latest colour ‘Surfmist’. Not only was he able to find the perfect location showcasing the key elements of ‘Surfmist’, but he was also able to photograph the Steel itself and create an image so intricate, that it could also be hung in a future exhibition series.
Earlier this year, Murray also created a TVC for Audi, creating a colourful time-lapse showcasing the beauty of the company’s new vehicle and the colourful cityscape we’re more than likely to see it in. Each shot was intricately prepared to create a kind of magic around the car that only Murray could present.
WITNESS will be exhibited at ARC ONE Sydney from 4 – 13 April, with a special opening event on April 4 and an exclusive Artist Discussion with Murray Fredericks and a special guest on April 10.
