Artist/Photographer/Director Irenaeus Herok (Irek) is our dark horse, maverick, magician. With his enviable eye, technical prowess and fine art training his skillset know no bounds.
Irek came to the land down under eight years ago, after a long, successful career in Europe and the Middle East. Here he found inspiration to evolve his art and photography practice in an environment that suits his passion for nature and light.
His work spans the remote, awe-inspiring landscapes of the globe. Drawn to shooting human interactions with and within these landscapes (often from the air) with a combination of technically complex, yet visually simple imagery to create extremely powerful results.
Classically trained in Fine Art, Irenaeus forayed into design and visual effects for feature film, before circling back (yes we said it) to the creative freedom of directing his own stills and motion imagery. Balancing technical precision with his own unique style, Irenaeus’ portraits combine a fine balance of traditional and contemporary aesthetics, influenced by old master paintings and cinema.
When not collaborating with creative teams to help shape brands, Irek can be found rebuilding his beautiful classic sailing boat on Sydney harbour.
Irenaeus works extensively for both Australian and international brands including; Apple, Fubiz, Hermès, Jurlique, Lufthansa, Sofitel Hotels, Sydney Dance Company & Sydney University.
Publications: New Scientist, Vanity Fair, Vice, Wired Magazine, Slanted Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, Spiegel Magazine, Travel Book, The Guardian, 212 Magazine & Gulf News.
Awards: Prix de la Photographie Paris px Competition (various years), HIPA Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography
Award’s UAE (various years), The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, National Portrait Gallery, London UK (various years).
